Today was a difficult day. Oliver had so many mood swings and some as instant as seconds from one emotion to the opposite. Even when his friend Alex came to visit, he perked up, took a present from him all happily then before he even wanted to begin to open it, got all moody and did not want anything to do with the presents himself anymore (however he did want to open one up and play with it for a tiny bit after they left, but still has not wanted to open the other one as of yet). Normally he is best in the morning and eventually by early evening he starts to fade and his mood turns sour and this starts over the next day, but today was just awful. Probably also the combination of his treatment, being here in this room for about 2 weeks now and having most of his precious independence taken away from him like he has at home. He likes his space when he wants it but he can't get that her. At home he goes into his room and plays by himself, he'll go grab a book and go into another room by himself to read it - he loves his self time. I hope tomorrow is better. He did totally perk up the moment the nurse finally brought in some string cheese.... he saw that and sat up and smiled and said 'cheese stick' - then asked for more after he ate one, ate the whole other one, and 1/2 of another one later.
Today we did wonder around the halls with his mask on for a bit, trying to see if he wanted to walk himself but no, only carried. Some activity bouncing up and onto his bum on the bed with his Aunt Molly as well.
A cute side note, after his chemo yesterday, the nurse was flushing his line, and he wanted to help push the plunger on the syringe connected to his cap on his central line.
I am going to do my first lab draw and flush in the morning with the nurse watching me. I think we have everything down with his broviac practicing on their chest model that is named 'Chester Chest' (Chester is my father in laws name so we always think its funny when they come in asking if we want to practice on chester or bring chester in here, etc etc)
Have I mentioned that I really want to go home with him. Like now. :(
