Small world

Oliver is napping right now so I thought I would post this story. Before that, I want to say Oliver is the happiest so far today. Despite having unsuccessful pokes to draw blood twice, then having to get another catheter with ultrasound assistance placed for all other draws due before tomorrow's surgery to place his Broviac...... You see, his aunt Molly came to visit and took all that edge off. They played doctor with his animals, blew bubbles, and did other favorite things he has not wanted to since being here. He even ate the most he has since her visit. It was nice to see him enjoying him self as he is used to.

Anyway, back to the small world story. Our nurse today - we were talking about how we thought we only had to deal with the heart defect as one of the major medical issues that is more common with downs. But now we get this too. Then the nurse had this inquisitive look and asked where he had his heart surgery and when. Then bells started ringing. I met her In the waiting room at UCSF when Oliver had his surgery in November of 2007 at 4 months old. Her daughter was undergoing a heart surgery too. She had informed me that since I was a breast-feeding mother (pumping), that I qualify for daily meals during his stay. We also talked about early intervention since with her daughter, they feared some kind if brain damage. She remembered how Oliver always would be kicking his feet around all over the place during his stay after heart surgery. This was a bit over three years ago mind you. So she noticed how he was doing that here in his bed and started to think if that is the same kid.....and look at that, it is. Her daughter did make it through her surgery back then too.

Funny how life works sometimes like that.

By the way.. If you are able to donate blood just for the sake of donating as kaiser uses red cross.. Please consider this good deed.
