Oliver was admitted to the hospital today (Kaiser Oakland). We thought he was getting better but last night he kept coughing most the night, but then later in the morning, he spiked a fever again to 102, was not wanting to eat or drink, and showed labored breathing.
We took him into the Oncology clinic right away. They took labs and sent us to do another chest X-Ray. We came back to clinic and they gave him IV antibiotics and said the x-ray showed some pneumonia. His SO2 level was also lower than likable, so they gave him a breathing treatment and had me holding the oxygen to his face (he wouldn't wear a mask) the whole time we where there. They decided to admit him, so we were waiting for them to get a room ready at the hospital (its just 2 blocks away). That took forever (we watched 3 movies with space in-between as well).
He seemed to be doing better at the hospital tonight, (they did give him Tylenol at clinic) but he spiked again and they gave him more. Dan is with him right now for the night as we switched off at dinner.
His labs show very high ANC of 2407 (WBC is 2.9), and within that are lots of 'bands' which indicate he is fighting this with his body.
Unfortunately we had to cancel our big double birthday party we had planned for tomorrow (Saturday), which was Oliver's actual birthday (Miles just turned 1 on the 1st). The Make-A-Wish folks were also coming to present him his wish this Sunday (our trip to San Diego for Legoland, the Zoo, and Sea World on August 13th) but we are not sure if we will be able to go now.
Will keep you posted on how he is doing tomorrow (most likely at the end of the day when someone has time to write). My sister and her kids came out from Houston for the party and visit (their flight left right before this all came to play). Hopefully they will get to see him (and at home!) before they leave.
They haven't seen each other since the week before Oliver was originally diagnosed with Leukemia in April of 2011.
Goodnight!
