Sorry, forgot to post yesterday.
Oliver's WBC shot up to 7.0 (which is well within normal range) with an ANC of 6440 (92%) -
This is unusually high though for him since his drugs pretty much prevent his white counts from being 'normal'. The only thing we can think of is his body is really fighting something since most of his white blood cells are the infection fighting ones (92% of them). He himself seems fine right now. I think we will check again on Friday just to see if there is anything weird going on still. The last time he got this high, within a few weeks his counts dove down and he was compromised. He has the start of a new round on Dec 31st as well. However, Oliver's counts seem to always be unpredictable so we never know what they are going to do.
His RBC is normal at 4.1
HGB normal at 12.2
and Platelets normal at 165K
He is getting a reaction on his skin from either the tape that goes over his catheter or the solution used to clean the area when we change it. Nothing has changed, but I guess these things can happen. They have alternate tape types we can try, but when we have to change it again, his skin needs a break so we have to use the cloth tape, which is weaker and not at all water proof of any kind. This just means we have to change it more often and really keep an eye on it to make sure its covered and staying in place.
Once his skin heals up some, we'll then try the other tape to see if that seems ok. If not, then it may be the solution so there is another way we have to clean the area that involves using iodine, etc.
(this is also not a reason his counts would be out of whack).
We did get seen yesterday for our monthly check up. All went well. He is the big man on campus there with the staffers.
Have a great week!
