Labs today

Oliver went to the Oncology clinic at 330pm today and got his second dose of IV antibiotics.

This morning he eventually started to eat/drink but developed a fever again. We were able to give him some tylenol then later his other meds and he seemed to do fine throughout the day. He seems to be hovering at around 99.5/100 since. They took another blood culture and did a CBC with manual diff. while at the clinic.

His WBC jumped to 4.7 with an ANC of 4606, which is 98% - His body is basically responding to whatever is going on, and most if not all of his WBC's are the infection fighting ones. This was a huge spike/jump from yesterday mornings labs.

Later, another lab called because of the first blood culture coming back positive for bacterial infection. It was a pretty vague one but saw that it can cause pneumonia (amongst a bunch of other things which the vagueness). The IV antibiotics are broad spectrum and should cover it (so we hope).  The Lab people don't know Oliver, and were told by their doctor on duty that Oliver needs to go to ER, but I said he just had antibiotics and that we'd call his Oncologist first, but then he called him while I was on hold and confirmed we don't need to go.  We are allowed to only give him Tylenol if he gets a fever within the 24 hours of having the antibiotics.  After that, if he gets a fever, we have to call and then probably back to ER for labs and more antibiotics if its after hours/weekends.  Hopefully what he got knocks it out and that won't happen.

We do still anticipate his counts will dive drastically because today was his last dose of the steroids, as well as the fact his body will run out of what it just kicked into overdrive to help fight this thing, that he'll have nothing left. At that point then they would remove him from his oral meds so he can recover again, etc. And if he has a fever while compromised, then they admit him until his counts recover while still pumping him full of antibiotics.

We'll check labs again Monday morning, but if anything else should happen between now and then, I will make another update.

Seriously can't wait to get to July already and be done with all this!
