We were going to just wait until Monday since he has a check up that day, but with 2 birthday parties this weekend, we wanted to make sure he was clear to attend.
Numbers today:
WBC at 2.4 with an ANC of 1776
RBC at 3.69
HGB at 12.2 (normal)
Platelets 201K (normal)
All pretty ok
They still have him on 75% of his dosage for his oral chemo meds at this time. I assume they may increase today, if not wait another week or two.
The hair that he lost is very slowly growing back. We are off school this week so we've been keeping busy. Getting back into the potty training swing of things. I know that we'll have a hard time around steroid time, but as long as we take slow progressions here and there, and with the new peers to learn from at school next year, we really hope to nip this in the bud in the next year. It would be great to be done with this cancer business and potty training at the same time!
Next week he starts extended school year (ESY) for 4 weeks. He will have the same teachers assistants and classmates, but a new main teacher. Her name is Martha and rumor is she is going to be his special day class teacher in kindergarten which is excellent. Oliver's time at kindergarten will be split in half with inclusion and half time with special day class, with some instances of more special day then inclusion when he's feeling low or emotional as a result of chemo treatment.
The Monday right after ESY ends, we start a new 12 weeks. That means a spinal, then chemo at the clinic through his line, and 5 days of steroids! Its going to be an interesting week to say the least (and days/week after since it seems to take some time for the steroids to leave his system completely).
One last thing and I'll probably post about it from time to time is we've started our fund raising page for the Down Syndrome Connection of the Bay Area's annual walk event in October. This year it is called "Step Up to Down Syndrome" - We have a new link for it at the top of our links area (upper right of this blog page). Please consider sponsoring Oliver, and send to anyone who you think would love to support and sponsor as well. We missed the event last year due to Oliver's health, but hope to all be able to attend this year.
Have a great weekend!
