We have been prepping him for the birth of his baby brother for some time: reading books about being a big brother, playing with baby dolls, etc. We did what we could, but I don't think there is any way to really prep a young child for a sibling. As they have now been spending their first hours together, it is clear that it will be a major adjustment to Oliver (although I don't know why this seems so unexpected to me--Miles' birth puts me through a major adjustment as well.) Oliver's feelings towards the new baby have been varied, and the fact that he is not the total center of our universe anymore has been a bit of a rude awakening for him. He has at different times been interested, unsure, engaged, upset, dismissive, scared, worried, happy, proud, and totally sweet around the baby. We are giving him as much special attention as we can to remind him that he is still very important to us. I think that it will take some time but, as you can see from these pictures, I am sure Oliver's sweet side will prevail and he will be a great big brother.
